Avets Specialty & Emergency Trauma Center is looking for a Medical Director to lead our amazing team of doctors. Our facility has specialists in surgery, internal medicine, oncology, neurology, avian & exotics, and critical care, along with our 24-hour emergency service. We utilize a truly multidisciplinary approach to cases, to provide state-of-the-art medicine and compassionate care to pets in our area.          

The Medical Director’s primary responsibility is to ensure the delivery of high-quality, compassionate, and comprehensive veterinary care to our patients while maintaining a positive, professional, and supportive work environment for the veterinary team. The Medical Director is responsible for upholding the mission, vision, and values of the hospital. The Medical Director works in close partnership with the hospital director to ensure the hospital’s success by acting as a medical subject matter expert, overseeing the entire medical team, and driving operational excellence. A Medical Director must maintain awareness of advances in veterinary medicine and participate in yearly CE in topics related to hospital leadership, management, or training and development. In most hospitals, between 25-75% of the MD’s time will be assigned to primary clinical duties and the remainder will be assigned to administrative duties.   

Required Qualifications:  

  • DVM or equivalent degree
  • Licensed to practice veterinary medicine in the state of Pennsylvania
  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills

Our 24-hour emergency and specialty hospital is looking for an ER Veterinarian to join our team. We are looking for full-time Oncology Veterinary Technician Caregiver to join our team. If you’re looking to advance your skill set and work in a fast-paced environment where every day looks different, we want to work with you!

Avets operates as a whole hospital team, offering opportunities to train and work with both Specialty and Emergency veterinarians. We pair new hires with a mentor to guide them through their introductory period. This is a full-time, hourly position, working 4 ten-hour shifts per week.

The Oncology Technician Caregiver assists the Oncologist in delivering precise and efficient patient care. He/she ensures smooth patient flow and conducts various procedures, including radiographs, lab work, and chemotherapy administration. This role is expected to have significant and compassionate client communication: in-person, phone calls and electronically. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with strong technical skills. The technician is also responsible for thorough and accurate medical documentation in the hospital’s PIMS and Whiteboard systems.

About You: Thrive in an ever-changing environment, an experienced Veterinary Technician, have strong communication skills, and are seeking a cohesive, hard-working team, committed to quality patient care, and efficient, 5-star client service. Experience state-of-the-art equipment and groundbreaking surgeries and procedures.

Key areas of responsibility:

  • Facilitate the doctor’s schedule to align with patient care needs.
  • Timely, thorough, and accurate patient care client interactions including collecting history for appointments and medication management and refills.
  • Ensuring a smooth and excellent client experience through communication, schedule management, and answering questions/concerns.
  • Perform lab work, radiographs, and sample submission.
  • Perform general anesthesia and sedation monitoring for procedures
  • Appropriately handle chemotherapy medications per hospital standards
  • Proficient IV catheter placement and venipuncture skills
  • Administer chemotherapy treatments as directed by Oncologist
  • Maintains hospital cleanliness by performing general cleaning duties: Laundry, sweeping, mopping, etc.
  • Other duties as needed

Skill requirements:

  • Strong ability to multitask and anticipate needs.
  • Excellent communication both written and verbal.
  • Experience using Medical Record and Whiteboard programs in a veterinary setting.
  • Venipuncture skills with a high level of accuracy.

Minimum qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.

  • Experience running anesthesia.

This is an hourly, full-time position, working 4 ten-hour shifts per week including the on-call shifts required by the department on some weekends. We are happy to provide our team members with:

Opened in the summer of 2021, our new 19,000 sq. ft. facility has been purposefully designed with state-of-the-art equipment to assist us in fulfilling our goal of practicing quality medicine and compassionate care for patients, families, and referring veterinarians in our community.

Anesthesia Caregivers will work on procedures for the Surgery, Neurology, and Emergency departments. Our cutting team includes a board-certified Veterinary Neurologist, 2 Surgeons, 2 Critical Care Specialists, and many experienced Emergency doctors.

Education is a daily focus at Avets. Our commitment to education is demonstrated by hospital-wide support of our residency and internship programs, and a team of VTS(ECC) lead training for our support staff. This is a full-time, hourly position, working either 3 twelve-hour shifts or 4 ten-hour shifts per week, including one weekend shift and rotational on-call after completing the training period.

Our surgical team includes 2 board certificated Veterinary Surgeons as well as a team of experienced technicians. Avets operates as a one hospital model, offering opportunities to train and work with both specialty and emergency veterinarians. This is an hourly, full-time position, working 4 ten hour shifts per week inclusive of an equal share of the Saturday shifts required by the department.
