Urgent Care

What is Urgent Care for Pets?

Like urgent care for humans, Avets provides a new treatment service that falls between primary/wellness care and emergency care. This means you and your pet will benefit from a designated appointment time, meaning less waiting for a walk-in emergency visit.

You know your pet best and if you think something is off - our Urgent Care veterinarian, Dr. Sharon Hasselbach, and her team are happy to check on your pet so you can have peace of mind. We offer the flexibility of booking appointments by phone and walk-in urgent care visits when availability allows.

Urgent Care Schedule at Avets

Our Urgent Care Veterinarian, Dr. Hasselbach, is available for appointments:

Monday-Wednesday, 10:00 AM - 7:15 PM

Please call to check availability and to schedule an appointment: 412-373-4200. Walk-in visits are also offered pending availability.

Avets Provides Comprehensive Care - All Under One Roof

If your pet's condition is deemed too severe for an urgent care visit, then we can transfer them right to our emergency and critical care team for added support. Our specialists are also available for consultation if your pet's presenting symptoms may benefit from an evaluation by one of our board-certified specialists.

If an Urgent Care patient needs to be transferred to Avets' Emergency service, there is no additional exam fee for this transfer!

Symptoms that may warrant an urgent care visit include

  • Vomiting and diarrhea
  • Red eyes, painful eyes, squinting
  • Bloody urine
  • Minor wounds and injuries
  • Uncomplicated abscesses
  • Lameness, trouble walking
  • Hives without change in behavior or without facial swelling
  • Coughing without trouble breathing
  • Lethargy or poor appetite for less than 2 days
  • No bowel movement for up to 48 hours

Please note that this list is not exhaustive and includes the most typical cases seen at Urgent Care facilities. Call Avets if you believe your pet requires urgent care 412-373-4200.
